History of straw marquetry

Straw marquetry, an ancient decorative art using colored strands of straw to create patterns on wood, originated in Europe in the 17th century and reached its peak in the 18th century at the court of Louis XV. In the 19th century convicts, convicts used this technique to make handicrafts sold outside, providing them with a creative activity and a means of subsistence. Today, straw marquetry is experiencing a revival thanks to contemporary artists who promote its beauty and eco-responsibility.
